What we do
APHA is dedicated to supporting civil society, communities and health care workers in
their fight to prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa. We do this by mobilizing
communities and contributing to capacity development through collaborations with
advocacy groups and key stakeholders.
Our aim is to ensure that communities engage from
a position of strength and that all interventions put the needs and rights of affected
communities first.
As part of our engagement and advocacy work, we gather and document best practices to
advance and inform sustainable approaches, as well as helping researchers, funders,
implementers, government entities and product developers to ensure that products and
policies take into account the lived reality of the end-
users.
APHA also strives to facilitate opportunities and spaces for young people, marginalized
groups and communities to recognize, develop and use their assets to be able to actively
engage around processes, policies and decisions that affect them directly.
